Light
I know you’ve marveled at many sunsets and sunrises; have soaked in the beauty of the clear, hot sunlight of the perfect summer day; and at times, have thought “I need a camera!” as the sunlight turns to a burnished golden liquid on those rare occasions when the molecules of moisture in the air do their thing and magic settles over you in a cascade of sparkling particles.
What is it about light that makes us catch our breath at its beauty? At its mystery? We love those mornings out camping in nature when the first rays of light make the world crisp and sharp and defined. Some mornings at home, we’re lucky enough to be up before the sun and to have a few extra moments to watch the sky fade in ombre layers from purple to violet to pink to peach to yellow to white.
Awe and wonder can work miracles on our perspective and our emotion set. If you’re a little bit down in the dumps or worried about the current state of affairs in the world, give yourself permission to observe the light around you. Get up just before the sun rises and go to your eastern facing window – or even better – go outside, and watch the world lighten. Let yourself be soaked in light, in awe, in wonder. Momentarily, give up your stress, your anxiety, your fear. Just for a moment, reconnect to the magic of light and feel it inside you, dispelling the darkness. And then stay in that emotion set for as long as you can.
