A Little Bit of Self-regulation
At times of crisis in the world, your world or the Big World, it can be super easy to forget about self-regulation. We can act out in anxiety and fear. We can say things from our amygdala. We can really be an a$$ if we’re not careful.
And, it certainly doesn’t have to be like that. We can maintain control of our thoughts, words, and actions. It takes effort and discipline. It takes a clear recollection that we all have responsibility for ourselves, for the way we speak to others, for the behaviors we exhibit. When we forget about our responsibilities, we can unintentionally harm others, not to mention ourselves.
What are our responsibilities in times of crisis? Watch your mouth. Use words that are kind, honest, and uplifting. Watch your body language and facial expressions. Over 90% of our communication is outside of the words we use. ! (Process that for a minute.) Use a gentle tone of voice. Keep a friendly smile on your face. Watch your behavior. Don’t act rudely or inconsiderately, pushing others out of your way. Move slowly and with helpful intention.
Our biggest responsibility? Remember who you are. You a strong person of infinite worth and value. You have a heart of light, strength, and love. You are good. You are good enough. You have something worth sharing with others. You have meaning and purpose here on the Earth, which is your home. Tap into your purpose, and every day, in small ways or big, live it. Do it. Be it.
